In Honor of Dads on Father’s Day

June 15, 2018 by Flashback Alley Leave a Comment

This Father's Day, let Dad know he's special!

With Father’s Day now just around the corner, we thought it the perfect time to shine a little light on and celebrate Dad. But first, let’s think about who Dad actually is….

He’s serious, but at times can be funny.
He’s often quiet, but sometimes a bit stern.
He strives to be present in life and emotion.
He’s often there to guide and to help us learn.

For boys, he’s motivator of plans and profession,
For young ladies, protector of daddy’s little girl.
In his own way he tries hard, but is seldom perfect.
He longs for acceptance in his personal world.

For some, he’s a relative in blood, while
Others know family’s not built on shared DNA.
His pride in those close to him is often silent,
But still he hopes we are blessed with a better way.

Deep down, still lives the little boy he once was,
Quietly missing carefree days of laughs and fun.
So this Father’s Day, help this man feel special,
And let Dad know you think he’s a special one.

Here’s to that special man in our life, always dear, not always near, may he always be with us through love.

Antique and Vintage Collectibles – Your Style, Your Way

Revelation Pottery Made in Japan

In this corner of the ecommerce world, antique and vintage collectibles are all-inclusive terms that tend to fit just right. Whether in a small apartment, a large sprawling mansion, or even a tiny office cubicle, collections are a display of self-expression, telling of one’s interest in a subject matter, brand, era, or style. And with a near-endless selection of vintage to choose from, every collector can find something to also fit their budget. Yay! Score one for the collectors!

Cat collection display - antique and vintage collectiblesFor me… Well, I’ve scored more than one. My first collecting obsession was cats. I have cats on the furniture, shelves, and walls. (Okay, the ones on the furniture are family members, but….) This group of collectibles focuses only on subject. There are cat figurines of glass, pottery, and porcelain in various colors and patterns. There are cat prints, clocks, and plaques that make me smile when I’m staring at the walls. I’ve got a few pieces of cat jewelry I love but seldom wear. And then there’s the lone rubber cat squeak toy the dog would love to call her own.

Bringing New Life to Vintage Sewing Patterns

Newly sewn dresses and their vintage sewing patterns

Simplicity, Butterick, Advance vintage sewing patternsWhen you think of the collector of vintage (glassware, jewelry, decor, figurines) often times you imagine glass front curio cabinets, locked jewelry boxes, and high shelves that are out of reach from touchy, grabby fingers. And there is nothing wrong with a preservationist collector who wants to keep their items as pristine as possible.

I, however, am not that collector.

Even In Vintage Planters, Houseplants Never Get Old

Hens and Chicks Succulent Plant in Teacup Set

All good trends eventually come back around and houseplants are no exception. Plants were a common sight in any household in 70’s and 80’s, and seem to have lost their appeal through the 90’s and 2010’s. Buuut, they’re back! I, for one, couldn’t be happier as I have always been a plant enthusiast. From macrame hanging plant holders to the Lil’ Bo Peep planters for baby, there are plenty of vintage plant pots and retro plant accessories from bygone eras out there to score.

Breaking Ground

April 29, 2018 by Flashback Alley

Welcome to the first peek at Your Vintage Friends! Over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be tidying up and rearranging a few things, possibly adding a couple of decorations.  And I expect we’ll also crank up the volume a bit on the social channels, as we prepare for what we hope is an online vintage party.

Here’s to sharing our love for vintage!

An Opening Note From Holly

My, how time flies …..

I’ve been part of the vintage community now for over 15 years, and in that time, I have met many vintage sellers I’ve come to consider friends. At times, these ecommerce comrades have been selfless; they’re hard-working, helpful, knowledgeable, and always inspire me to improve where and when I can.
